Freelance Passage Writer
Department: Assessment Development
We are seeking a diverse pool of writers to develop culturally sustaining ELA passages for Reading and Writing assessments.
Responsibilities

Write reading passages and other stimuli of appropriate content, readability level, text complexity, and interest to generate reading and writing test items.

Write culturally sustaining content informed by lived experience targeting topics of high interest to students who are Black, Hispanic, indigenous, people of color, English language learners, disabled, or members of other historically disadvantaged demographic groups.

Follow provided client specifications and style guides.

Revise passages in response to content specialist feedback.
Requirements:

Experience using the Common Core or other State Standards for English Language Arts

Teaching experience in one or more elementary or middle school grades preferred

Ability to work in Microsoft Word

Willing to provide a writing sample on request
Compensation
This is a freelance role involving periodic project-based work. Compensation is per passage written and varies per project but is typically in the range of $200-$275 for passages up to 1000 words.
